Yellow Floating Heart/Nymphoides peltata

I grew weary of waiting for it to bloom and forgot about it. Hubby alerted me to seeing a new bud yesterday. I almost missed it. They only stay open in the morning.   More Nymphoides species info can be seen here. Shops that sell tropical fish are a good source for small floating plants you may desire for container water gardens.

Aquariumscape Contest

We can always garden inside when it is no longer possible to do it outside. How about a tiny terrarium?

What a beautiful flower in the middle of all that water.

DP,
If you could only see how much all that water is. The only reason you can see the water and I think why the little plant possibly bloomed is the squirrels harvested most of the water lily stems.

What a gorgeous little bloom. I've never see Yellow Floating Heart before, good thing hubby alerted you to the bud. :)

Hi Donna, those aquarium landscapes are stunning. I had no idea there was such variety available for them. Those are masterpieces. Your little flower is very sweet. Does it winter over in the water garden outside or do you bring the whole thing in? My pond is getting too shady for the waterlilies to bloom and I would like to add something with a flower that could take some shade. Any ideas?

PGL,
We get excited over the simplest things.

Frances,
We may have to go with color in the foliage.

I want to do a terrarium in on a cake plate. I want to add little mini statues and some surprises. They can be so costly. Love your pretty little yellow treat waiting for you.

Great tip about looking for water plants in tropical fish stores. It would be a nice way to dip my toe in water gardening.

Yellow Floating Heart is beautiful. Even if you just got one (how did the squirrels get to those buds without drowning?)

FGG,
A cake plate is a great idea...easy access.

PB,
Pond is small and squirrels browsed the edges. They did me a favor actually. Now I don't have to remove dead water lily leaves.

I have not thought about terrariums in a long time. They were immensely popular in the 70s, and I had several. Your post reminds me that, while only a few, I do have indoor plants that make me happy, so I'm gardening!
