Autumn Joy

Gloomy days lately have me moving plants away from my door. It seems I cannot get enough light.  It's clean up time today. I must reduce some of the planters. It is too big a job to wait.

One bright note.. I saw the Carolina wren fledglings hunting as a family yesterday. This is probably their last day together. In one week parents teach them where to go and what to eat and what to avoid. I'd say that is a crash course in survival.

I'm not noticing any male hummingbirds. I think the males have already gone south. Next will be the females and lastly the young. They fly solo. Read more here.

I'm thankful I live in a peaceful place.

Happy Birthday, Philip Bewley.

Autumn Joy is definitely a joy in autumn. The butterflies love it too. I have males hummers here so I think they are still around. I put out two more feeders and wow did that ever bring them in and I can watch them from inside. I am loving these guys so much this year. Maybe when you work on the planters you can do it outside and get some light? I hope your days get brighter. I want rain here though!:)

I am always amazed at what a crash course a lot of nature receives. I'm glad the wren family is still around even if it's only for today. I only have juvenile hummingbirds in my garden ~ the adults have all moved south and any day so will all the young. I will be sad about that but want them to go so they don't get caught in any unexpected cold snaps.

I would send you some sunshine but we've got rain! I don't want it to leave. I'm thankful that we finally have some.

It is all winding down and with it comes the quiet of Autumn. I've enjoyed your stories about the baby birds. I hope they have learned well and can survive properly. You gave them a great place to experience their childhood;)

That's a sweet card you gave to Philip.

It looks like autumn is slowly arriving in your part of the world. It is nice to celebrate different seasons. Always something to look forward to.

I love your photographs of blossoms with their caps still on
before they grow to big and drop them on the ground...

Hi Donna, I just took a picture of autumn joy today but that's only because I'm in the Blue Ridge Mtns. for a few days. We don't grow it down in Florida. Yours is very pretty. I haven't spotted any hummers this summer...I'm still hoping to see some in the next couple of months.

Gail,

This year, the first in years, Autumn Joy has looked good! Not sure what is different but I am enjoying the bloom and the visitors it brings to the garden.

My feeders are bringing in the hummers and boy are they aggressive. regular 'cat' fights are happening daily!

Hello from Toronto, Canada. Thanks for dropping in on my blog and your comment.
Hope you had an enjoyable garden tour. Love the photo of your Sedum--a real autumn joy. Got a lst prize for mine (3 cut stems) at a local garden club show this week. Beat out several other ladies' entries. (Uh,oh, there's my competitive streak showing its ugly head).
